Burberry Prorsum Fall/Winter 2012

It is no surprise that Christopher Bailey has designed another flawless collection for Burberry Prorsum. I feel like every season I repeat myself with the same line, but it is true. Fall 2012 saw Christopher seek inspiration from the idea of merging worlds. “I love the idea of merging worlds - the digital and physical worlds, the country and city… And I like taking familiar elements – the field jacket, the quilted jacket, the trench – and respecting them but making them modern.” said Bailey after the show. 

One of the finest aspects about all of Burberry Prorsum’s collection is how wearable the garments are, and how no matter what the inspiration is, every collection is so iconic and British. This Fall 2012 offering for example had a feel of British hunting and shooting with trench coats with plaid wool peplum, cotton tweed trench coats with contrast panels, gun flaps and epaulettes, tweed jackets with velvet trims, corduroy riding jacket with epaulettes, throat latch and equestrian leather straps. For an even more sophisticated look, Christopher offers a fur collar herringbone jacket with a detachable Rex rabbit fur collar. To extenuate the feeling of being in the countryside, Christopher included cartoon owls and dogs on blouses and knitwear which looked fun and very cute.

Of course the iconic Burberry Prorsum trench-coat made many appearances but Christopher altered them from the traditional trench coat like adding showerproof waxed cotton, contrast panels, tweed belts with leather buckles and herringbone bellow pockets. Perhaps my favourite piece was the final look which was a velvet quilted blanket coat with a draped blanket front, structured shoulder, fitted waist and full skirt. It looked so elegant and beautiful. 

Accessories were a big part of this collection as always and Christopher including plenty of gorgeous clutches which linked to this huntsmen inspired look such as a metal studded leather clutch with a hound head, and a teal suede clutch with a metal owl head. For bags, Christopher offers plenty of suede bags including several suede totes with equine stripes available in a variety of colours. 

The finale of the show with the rain washing down the sides of the window was a memorable moment for Burberry and almost sent a tear to my eye.
